About The Church of Christ

The church following the pattern of the New Testament welcomes you.

The church of Christ is made up of souls around the world earnestly endeavouring to practice New Testament Christianity. These souls practice pre-denominational/non-denominational organisation so are neither Roman Catholic nor Protestant. They are just Christians.

These Christians have been baptised by one Spirit into one spiritual body known as the church of Christ but equally can be called the “church of God” (1 Corinthians 1:2) or “house of God” (1 Timothy 3:15) or simply “the church” or “kingdom” (Matthew 16:18, 19; Acts 2:47; Colossians 1:13), etc.

These Christians worship exactly the way Christians worshipped in the first century. That is: each and every “first day of the week” preaching only the word of God and partaking of the Lord‘s Supper (Acts 20:7); freewill giving according to one’s purpose and prosperity (2 Corinthians 9:7); singing without musical instruments (Ephesians 5:19; Colossians 3:16; and of course praying to God Almighty (1 Corinthians 14:15).

These Christians rely upon Jesus Christ’s New Testament (the gospel) for their authority  just as the apostles preached everywhere unto every congregation, for as Paul said he “decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and him crucified“ (1 Corinthians 2:2) and “whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus“ (Colossians 3:17). The organisation of the church is therefore with biblically qualified elders to lead (1 Timothy 3:17; Titus 1:5-9); deacons to serve (1 Timothy 3:8-13); ministers to proclaim (Romans 10:13-15; 2 Timothy 4:1); and train teachers to edify the church (Hebrews 5:11-14).

These Christians look unto the New Testament for instruction in righteousness (Romans 12:1-2) and Christian service (Matthew 28:19-20; Mark 16:15-16). Fellowship with other Christians is regulated by the doctrine of Christ (2 John 9-11; 1 John 1:3).

These Christians are collectively referred to as “churches of Christ” (Romans 16:16) and cordially invite you to study God’s word and ultimately obey it.

A congregation of these Christians meet every Sunday at 10am at the Godley Block, Aoraki Polytechnic, Theodosia Street, Timaru.
